There’s no easy way to say this: The Coffee Shop needs your help.
When we opened up The Coffee Shop back in November of 2011, we did it with a single goal in mind. Our mission was to get people working again, to offer them a life of self sustainability, through job skills and confidence building. Since The Coffee Shop first opened it’s doors, we have trained almost 90 interns, giving them a second chance at the life they always wanted. Without the support of everyone, we would not have been able to change those lives.
Where we are at currently is that business has been down, and it’s been increasingly difficult to keep the doors open. As a non-profit organization, we are faced with tough decisions daily on how every cent we have should be spent. We are proud of the program and the results it’s been able to produce, but we are also accountable to everyone who gives to us in the effort to End Homelessness. The choice we are being faced with is to get business in the shop up in order to support the cost of job training, or having to divert funds from equally necessary programs essential to getting people off the street.
We absolutely want to avoid that, because we know The Coffee Shop has the chops to make it in this city. There is not a more compassionate community of people anywhere else in this world than there is here. So today, we want to ask you as a community to help get The Coffee Shop back on it’s feet. There are so many ways you can make this program stay open, and we hope you participate in any way you can.
First and easiest is to just let everyone know who we are, what we do, and where we are. We have free wi-fi, free parking in downtown, a nice quiet lobby full of natural light, and great local coffee. Life is busy and hectic, and we feel like our shop is a great place to take a quick breather from all the craziness outside and relax. Any business is hugely beneficial to us, so if you’re downtown and need a pick me up or a quick bite to eat, stop in and give us a try!
Another way to help would be to directly fund The Coffee Shop. Maybe you feel really strongly about the work the program does, and if so,
that’s fantastic! We would love to have you help us keep our interns trained and working so that they have real world job experience to get
back into the job market. You can donate right here! If you’re looking to do something more consistent and/or larger than average,
please feel free to contact Monet for more information at 242-4399 ext. 238.
We want to keep making a difference in the lives of others, but your help is essential. So whether you just tell your friends, have a quick lunch (or do a catering), or choose to make a donation to help keep it’s doors open, you know that you’re participating in making a difference. Your help is needed now more than ever. Thank you from all of us here at St. Martin’s for all you do to support us and our programs. We cannot make the work we do possible without you all.
