Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) is a civil procedure in which a court can order an individual with a serious mental illness to follow a treatment plan in the community. This program provides a number of services including, but not limited to, comprehensive case management and community support, peer support, psychiatric services, and medication monitoring. These services are designed to ensure such individuals receive the care they need, thereby reducing the risk of incarceration or hospitalization.
